Berry, Banana, and Greens Smoothie
We regularly make this berry, banana, and greens smoothie in the morning. My kids love it, and so do Carlos and I. Pair it with some healthy fats and protein, such as a handful of nuts to maintain steadier blood sugar levels and ensure satiety.
I prefer homemade smoothies over juice because smoothies incorporate whole fruits and vegetables, which means you benefit from all that extra fiber.
But not all smoothies are created equal!
Making smoothies at home in a high powered blender allows you to control the quality and quantity of the ingredients.
Many store bought smoothies contain artificial ingredients and fruit juice instead of whole fruits and vegetables, so be sure to read the nutritional info before sipping with abandon.
Berry, Banana, and Greens Smoothie
~2 cups ice
~3/4 cup water
1 banana
1 knob of ginger
1 1/2 cups packed organic greens, like spinach and kale
1 1/2 cups frozen organic berries and cherries
I tend to go heavier with the blueberries, next raspberries, then throw in a few strawberries and cherries if I have any. And you can always add more water if you want a thinner consistency.
Blend and enjoy!
The above recipe makes approximately three 8-oz smoothies.
