Mike and Abbi’s Success Story

Though it’s been years since Mike and his daughter Abbi have lived under the same roof, they still have a close relationship that keeps them seeing each-other often. The close-knit family vacationed to the Outer Banks last month (with Abbi’s sister + her immediate family in tow), and Abbi took her dad out to dinner at one of his favorite restaurants for his birthday. As in all relationships, they’ve learned from one another. And when Mike saw his daughter finding success on her health journey with Companion Health, he was inspired to start one of his own.

Abbi, a vibrant and warm woman who was following a vegetarian diet and teaching yoga while also working a full-time job, sought getting back to feeling her best. Specifically, improving her gut health, boosting her immune system and regaining her energy were at the top of her list. Dr. Jorge and Abbi’s health coach helped her tackle these goals by adjusting her diet to include additional animal protein and rethinking exercise to ascertain the correct amount that she needed. But additional wins came about through the program: her general health and feelings of well-being improved, as did her anxiety, which decreased dramatically. Abbi learned to give herself grace and found time for music and fostering her artistic talents. And she even planted an amazing vegetable garden.

Mike’s goals were pretty different than Abbi’s, not unexpected. We are all individuals, which is why we personalize plans. There is no one-size-fits-all. Mike wanted to work on lowering his cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight. The president of a company, Mike leads a busy life both at work and at home—but he was ready to devote the time and effort required.

When Mike first started working with us, his breakfasts needed a nutritional boost as did the restaurant lunches he was consuming 4-5 times each week. Fast forward to now, and he begins his days with granola, blueberries, and dairy-free milk, and is much more mindful of his lunches. His hydration is on point, he’s seeking out more optimal foods at the grocery store, and he’s even begun a meditation practice. But the proof is in the pudding: he’s dropped 25 pounds, and his LDL (bad) cholesterol went from 157 to 88!

Mike summed it up perfectly with this quote: “You can do Whole30 and lose 20 pounds in 30 days and be burnt out. It’s great to have a diet that’s sustainable and not confusing.”

Congratulations to both of you, Abbi and Mike. The progress you both have made is inspiring! We look forward to continuing to stand alongside you on your health journey.
